On Shazam’s Under-Performance (Essay)

This past weekend, DC’s new superhero film Shazam! premiered at the box office with overwhelmingly positive reviews. As of this moment, this movie holds a 7.8/10 on IMDb, a 72/100 on MetaCritic, a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 3.7/5 on Letterboxd. That being said, it opened to $56.8 Million which was much lower than people expected.Continue reading “On Shazam’s Under-Performance (Essay)”

Shazam! (Movie Review)

In my review of Aquaman, I mentioned that if Shazam! is as good, then for the first time in at least a decade, a Marvel movie is sandwiched by two better DC movies. Consider history to have been made! Shazam! is wonderful in every way. DC has truly succeeded in letting its directors take full control over their movies. What IContinue reading “Shazam! Aquaman (Movie Review)

With a worldwide box office of over 1 Billion dollars, the purpose of a “review” today may seem lost. However, I think it’s important to still look at Aquaman because it means something for DC: a bright future. Following the extremely divisive Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, this movie had every reason to be a disappointment and aContinue reading “Aquaman (Movie Review)”

Defining “Superhero Films”

Collider Videos is publishing a series on YouTube titled “Top 50 Superhero Films,” and in that video series they present their collective ranking of the best superhero films of all time. In that spirit, I decided to do the same thing, but ran into an issue: how do we define “superhero films”? At first glance,Continue reading “Defining “Superhero Films””

Fight: The Dark Knight or Logan?

Now for the true test. Everybody is saying that Logan is one of the greatest superhero films they’ve ever seen. They say it’s the best X-Men film, the best Marvel film, but can it hold its ground against THE comic book film…not only the greatest superhero film ever made, but one of the defining cinematic achievements in cinema history… TheContinue reading “Fight: The Dark Knight or Logan?”

Movie Question: Who Should Direct The Batman?

Now that Ben Affleck has officially left the project, after months of stating that he would (not) take the job, he finally admitted that he would turn the project down. He previously stated that if the script was not good (like Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad), then he wouldn’t direct the film; now, he is stating that hisContinue reading “Movie Question: Who Should Direct The Batman?”

Movie Fight: Batman v. Superman vs Suicide Squad

This is the year that DC started to truly compete with Marvel, at least as far as the idea of the Cinematic Universe goes. Marvel gifted us Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange while DC threw up Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad; of course, I’m not going to pick any favorites between the studios at all… Today, we’reContinue reading “Movie Fight: Batman v. Superman vs Suicide Squad”
